urban photography
Street photography uses the techniques of straight photography in that it shows a pure vision of something, like holding up a mirror to society. Street photography often tends to be ironic and can be distanced from its subject matter, and often concentrates on a single human moment, caught at a decisive or poignant moment. you can take pictures of anything you want really that's around you, it doesn't have to be planned

Michael wolf

Michael Wolf has used the urban landscape of many cities to inspire his work. His photographs show the patterns and repetition within the architecture of these centres of human population. He has framed each image to focus the viewer's attention on the structures that overlap. In some of his photographs he has captured a moment of human interaction within these permanent gigantic structures. He positions himself at the same height as the buildings he is photographing so that the vertical lines within the buildings are not effected by lines of perspective. This emphasises the repeated vertical lines which show power and strength.

Moholy-Nagy.

Moholy enjoyed taking photos close from bellow building looking up from the ground. he used modern buildings with sharp and clear edges with simple shapes. When you stand close to a tall structure and look up the perspective is exaggerated. the image after you take it can be quite abstract.

Analysing a paul strand photograph
Focus: The whole subject is in focus. However, there are shadows and darker areas around the left side of the picture that are lighter dark around the outside and get darker towards the middle of the picture. The sharpest area is at the top of the picture and I think the softest is around the middle of the picture.
Light: a triangular slash of bright sunlight appears in the middle of the image . This is accompanied by bands of light running diagonally across the upper portion of the image.
Line And Shape:There are objects in this photo that act as lines, for example the rays of lights are lines, they are all straight lines. however, they are made into different shapes.
Repetition: There are repetitive rectangular lines running across the middle of the image, and also the left top of the image.
Space: The space in the image appears quite shallow, tightly constrained by the cropping.
Texture: All of the objects in this image are smooth textured. it is dynamic because of the jagged bursts of light across their surfaces.
Value/Tone: The image has a variety of tones from dark to very light. there are some deep and quite dark shadows but also some mid tones of light.

Keld Helmer Peterson
The silhouettes are created by highly contrasted photographs. they show the stark nature of the urban environment. Peterson focuses on where he places lines and shapes and the way he overlap's them to make the photograph stand out. I am inspired by his photos and how they are different and bold and the shapes he creates by overlapping a range and thick and thin lines. I will use the elements of line and contrast to investigate my urban environment.

By selecting these images I am starting to see the connection and similarities between them.
I then began to change the contrast to make the lights brighter to stand out, and the blacks blacker so that they would stand out bold.
I chose this because I liked the way it gets narrower as it gets further I thought this would look good in the background and create a good affect.

I chose this image because I liked the way he is stood up straight with one leg up and looking directly sideways
|
this was my first stage which I put Jake on top of the background in the place I wanted him.
|
I cute around Jake to get rid of the blue background to make it look like the picture was taken in the place of the background
|
I chose this image because the modelis looking down, creating alost/unhappy vibe.she also
has no emotion to her face showing which can suggest that she is lost. I then tried moving her into the middle to see if it looks better, I liked middle of the picture better because it may suggest she is stuck in the middle of many thoughts.

I
I chose this image as the background
because it is very dull and dark emphasising unhappiness, it is mysterious suggesting loss in the last stage I put her right in the middle of the black part then to fade her more by lowering the capacity to create and affect of her slowly disappearing into a black hole.
|
in the first stage I but the model on the side of the picture and faded her into it to see what it looked like trying to creating an affect as if she is fading into nothingness.
